Happy Spring

Winter seems to have gone on forever; the gray days, the piles of snow, every color coated in frost. Though winter has its beauty, there are few things to compare with the trumpeting heralds of spring. The trees and flowers in my area have sprouted colorful wings and they fly like technicolor butterflies against the warming blue March sky. I've kept my camera with me everywhere I go for days! If you love color, if you're creative, now is a special time. Enjoy every second!

Idea Seeds: Orchard

Orchards are beautiful places, not just for the scenery, but for the produce. I've been going to orchards since I was a child. There's nothing quite like picking your own fruit and vegetables. I especially love to pick apples. Picking apples is a rite of passage from summer to fall. They signal the beginning of pie and cider season.

Today's Idea Seed is orchard. Have you ever been to an orchard? If so, what memories do you have? What creative things spring to mind? Maybe you got to take a hay ride. Maybe you saw how they pressed apples to make cider. If you've never visited an orchard and there's one within a reasonable distance, make a point to pop in.

Idea Seeds: Transparent

Time for more word association! Today's Idea Seed is transparent. Transparent can mean different things. Literally, it's something you can see through either clearly or partially. When referring to a person, it can mean someone with a poorly veiled personality or intentions. What does 'transparent' mean to you? Does it bring to mind a thing, a person, a time in your life? Pick your brain and pick up a pencil!

History in a New Hue

I recently discovered a blog entry from the Denver Post's photoblog called Captured: America in color from 1939-1943. The entry features prints made from color slides taken in the time period. This part of history is notorious for its black and white or sepia-toned photos, things we've come to associate with the Great Depression and WWII. But no matter what, there's always color. Through these prints, we get a glimpse of what those monotone photographs kept from us: a rainbow of beauty in one of this nation's most dismal times. I picked six photographs from the collection to sample into palettes over at Colourlovers. If you like what I've sampled, you can visit the Denver Post's blog here. The entry is very image heavy, so do wait for all to load, they don't disappoint.
